Setlementtiliikkeen monikulttuurisessa toiminnassa haluamme luoda uusia kansalaistoiminnan ja kohtaamisen muotoja perinteisten perheeseen, uskontoon ja kansallisuuteen rakentuvien yhteisötunteiden rinnalle. Toimimme sillanrakentajana kanta- ja uussuomalaisten kesken kehittämällä paikallisesti kotiutumisen keinoja ja edistämällä kulttuurien välistä ymmärrystä. Tärkeitä työn muotoja ovat vertaisapu, opintotoiminta, suomalaiseen työkulttuuriin perehdyttäminen, aktiiviseen kansalaisuuteen opastaminen ja väliinputoajaryhmien tunnistaminen ja tukeminen.



Toimintamme ei olisi mahdollista ilman uussuomalaisten ja etnisten ryhmien toimimista liikkeessämme asiantuntijoina, työntekijöinä, vertaistuen toteuttajina ja vapaaehtoistyössä. Kehitysyhteistyössä Afrikassa ja lähialueyhteistyössä pystymme käytännössä toimimaan ja oppimaan elämistä monikulttuurisessa ympäristössä.



Monikulttuurinen työ on keskeinen osa setlementtiliikettä



Setlementtiliike muodostaan maan toiseksi suurimman järjestökokonaisuuden, jossa toimitaan maahanmuuttajataustaisten ihmisten kanssa. Monikulttuurinen työ onkin viime vuosina muodostunut yhdeksi setlementtien perustoiminnoista, joka näkyy monipuolisina työmuotoina päiväkodeista ja ikääntyneiden asumispalveluihin ja kansalaistoiminnasta sukupuolisensitiiviseen toimintaan. Tärkeäksi ja hyväksi keinoksi tavoittaa uussuomalaiset on matalan kynnyksen neuvonta ja tapaamispaikat, jossa voidaan yhdessä neuvotella sopivista toimintatavoista suomalaisen kulttuurin, byrokratian ja toimintatapojen viidakoissa. Setlementtiliike pyrkii aktiivisesti toimimaan myös vertaistukijana etnisiä vähemmistöjä edustaville järjestöille.
