Nivalan mukaan Kemijärven laitos olisi uuden sukupolven biojalostamo. Se tuottaisi paikallisesta havupuusta uusia tuotteita esimerkiksi tekstiiliteollisuuteen, energiateollisuuteen ja rehutuotantoon. Eli esimerkiksi kalojen ja siipikarjan rehuksi.

Biojalostamon toimintaedellytyksiä on selvitetty hankkeessa, jota vetää Suomen metsäkeskus. Heikki Nivala sanoo, että hän ei voi kertoa kuka hankkeen takana on.
