Metsä Groupin biotuotetehdasprojekti Äänekoskella etenee suunnitellusti aikataulussa, ja työmaalla eletään parhaillaan työmaavahvuuden huippua. Tällä hetkellä työmaalla työskentelee päivittäin keskimäärin 2 600–2 700 oman alansa ammattilaista. Vilkkaimpina päivinä luku on käynyt liki 3 200 henkilössä. Pääpaino on tällä hetkellä asennustöissä, jotka alkoivat vuoden 2016 alussa massatehtaalta. Projektin kokonaisedistymä on noin 80 prosenttia ja biotuotetehdas käynnistyy vuoden 2017 kolmannella neljänneksellä.

Biotuotetehdastyömaalla on työskennellyt kaikkiaan koko projektin aikana, eli toukokuusta 2015 marraskuuhun 2016, yli 8 200 eri henkilöä. Suomalaisten osuus koko projektin työvoimasta on ollut 68 prosenttia, ja ulkomaalaisten osuus on näin ollen 32 prosenttia. Suomalaisten jälkeen seuraavaksi eniten työntekijöitä on ollut projektin aikana Puolasta, Virosta, Liettuasta, Kroatiasta ja Slovakiasta.
